Position Summary:
Stratos Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Cybersecurity Engineer to lead the safeguarding of space systems, including both space-based assets and associated ground and communication systems. This role involves applying cutting-edge cybersecurity practices to protect mission-critical assets against evolving threats, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of these systems in support of U.S. national security and United States Space Force (USSF) objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity strategies, policies, and procedures for space systems, ground systems, and communication networks.
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and threat modeling for both space-based and terrestrial components of space systems.
- Provide technical expertise in securing satellite command and control systems, telemetry data, and mission-critical communication links.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, operators, and acquisition teams to integrate cybersecurity requirements into system designs and operations.
- Monitor and respond to cybersecurity incidents, including real-time analysis and mitigation of threats to space systems.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain compliance with relevant DoD, IC, and USSF cybersecurity standards and frameworks.
- Support accreditation and certification processes for space systems under Risk Management Framework (RMF) guidelines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of cybersecurity measures across the system lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 7 years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on space systems, DoD, or IC environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in securing space systems, ground stations, and communication networks.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards, including RMF, NIST 800-53, and CNSS 1253.
- Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability management, and incident response in high-security environments.
- Proficiency in tools and technologies such as SIEMs, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and encryption methods.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex cybersecurity concepts for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of space systems architecture, satellite operations, and telemetry systems is highly desirable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CISM).
- Familiarity with USSF mission objectives, terminology, and operational environments.
- Understanding of satellite communications security, including anti-jamming and encryption techniques.
- Experience with cybersecurity in Agile development environments.
- Knowledge of advanced persistent threats (APTs) and emerging threat vectors in space systems.
