Position Overview
Stratos Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Space Protection Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) services in support of space protection efforts. This role focuses on the security, resilience, and operational effectiveness of space systems through comprehensive threat assessments, systems integration, and doctrinal improvements. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, problem solver, and expert in space operations and protection strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert analysis, guidance, and recommendations to enhance space system protection and resilience.
- Conduct threat assessments and develop courses of action to mitigate adversarial risks to space assets.
- Analyze and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to support operational objectives.
- Assess and refine space protection doctrine, strategies, and architectures for improved mission effectiveness.
- Monitor, evaluate, and participate in wargames and exercises; capture and assess lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Oversee integration of space protection functions and capabilities into delivered systems, ensuring operational effectiveness.
- Provide schedule and capability analyses to ensure timely and relevant capability deployment.
- Assist in planning, execution, and oversight of government systems engineering efforts.
- Review technical documentation and represent the government in key forums and working groups to streamline capability delivery.
Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of experience; or Master’s Degree in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience.
- Strong experience in systems engineering processes (lifecycle management, risk management, change management, etc.).
- In-depth knowledge of orbital analysis and the implications of orbital maneuvers.
- Working knowledge of joint operations planning processes.
- Deep understanding of satellite constellations, spacecraft orbits, and ground station characteristics.
- Self-starter with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to anticipate customer needs with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-stakeholder environment (contractors, SETA, FFRDC, government personnel).
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 9+ years of experience; or Master’s Degree in a relevant field with 7+ years of experience.
- Expertise in space vehicle components, the Satellite Control Network (SCN), and terrestrial space control systems.
- Real-time space operations experience as a spacecraft or ground systems operator.
- Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, Agile development, and cloud technologies.
- Experience using JIRA, Confluence, or other collaboration tools.
