Position Summary:
Stratos Solutions is seeking a Space System Operations Engineer to manage and operate Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) satellites and other space systems in support of national security priorities. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the monitoring, control, and operational effectiveness of space-based assets, ensuring mission success in a dynamic and high-stakes environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively monitor, manage, and operate military satellites and space systems to ensure optimal functionality and mission readiness.
- Perform command and control functions, including issuing commands to spacecraft, analyzing telemetry data, and resolving anomalies in real-time.
- Detect and track missile launches, ensuring timely reporting and coordination with mission partners.
- Conduct satellite position maintenance, orbital adjustments, and collision avoidance maneuvers.
- Execute system checks, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to maintain high operational standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, analysts, and government stakeholders, to support mission objectives.
- Develop and refine operational procedures, documentation, and training materials to enhance mission performance and knowledge sharing.
- Provide timely and accurate status updates, reports, and recommendations to leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all security protocols, mission guidelines, and operational directives.
- Stay current with advancements in space operations technologies, methodologies, and best practices to maintain operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Space Operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years of experience in space system operations or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with satellite command and control systems, telemetry analysis, and mission planning tools.
- Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, satellite subsystems, and space situational awareness.
- Ability to assess and respond to system anomalies, emergencies, and unexpected events under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy, reliability, and mission success.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with space protection technologies, to include missile warning systems.
- Familiarity with government space operations policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Knowledge of software tools and frameworks used in space system operations, such as STK, MATLAB, or similar.
- Training or certification in advanced space operations or related disciplines.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices related to space systems and satellite communications.
